Today we are going to talk about open hands and open hearts!
It is said that As you do, so it will be done to you.
I have come to realize that treating others as you want them to treat you is a matter of choice.
However, being a blessing to others should not be based on how you feel about someone.
It should be an act to anyone with nothing expected in return other than knowing that you hae done something to make another person feel good.
That statement is the truest mission of what the WORLDS CHILDREN PEACE MONUMENT represents. It's our demonstration of caring for one another--family, friends and the German community-- that sets an example for others to see. Those who follow make compassion an essential part of their lives find the joy of living. Kindness deepens the spirit and produces rewards that cannot be completely explained in words. It is an experience more powerful than words. To become acquainted with kindness one must be prepared to learn new things and feel new feelings. Kindness is more than a philosophy of the mind. It is a philosophy of the spirit.
Also, remember that someone somewhere is always watching. Your actions will always speak to others about your capacity for compassion.
It's simple: Here at the Cleveland German Radio Show, there are so many listeners and supporters, and every one of them plays an important role in ensuring that what is needed and necessary for the betterment of the greater Cleveland german Community.

For many people, the first thing that comes to mind when asked about Heinrich Heine is "Die Lore--Ley".
"Das Lied von der Loreley" is probably the best know poem by Heine, besides "Deutschland - Ein Wintermärchen". It is about the mythical figure of the Loreley a mermaid who bewitches seamen on their way along the Rhine with her songs and drowns them in the river. According to the legend, she is sitting on the Loreley Rock near Sankt Goarshausen in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. This Rock is still an exciting sight when visiting the Rhine and attracts many tourists all over the world.

CLEVELAND GERMAN RADIO SHOW RECIPE OF THE WEEK: SPARGEL
Spargel is one of my favorite vegetables! Is it yours? However, mostly in america green asparagus is sold in stores and farmer's markets.
Asparagus is “Spargel” in German and the season is called “Spargelzeit”. White asparagus season in Germany is typically from around mid-April through to 24 June when the country celebrates the nativity of St. John the Baptist.
Spargel Saison beginnt!
North Rhine-Westphalia officially opens the asparagus season. The opening ceremony was performed by the minister of agriculture and of course the Spargelkönigin (Asparagus Queen).
The vegetable came to Northern Europe with the Romans who had cultivated it and valued it for its aphrodisiac properties. But it wasn't until the 16th century that European royalty started eating asparagus. Since it was not that common, asparagus was very expensive. It was therefore also called "Weißes Gold" (White Gold).
While many farmers started growing asparagus in the 19th century, it wasn't until the 20th century that 'normal' people could afford asparagus. It was also in the 19th century that white asparagus was grown. Something that happened by accident. Farmers covered asparagus sprouts with clay pots to protect them from insects and the cold. They noticed that the asparagus didn't turn green but stayed white. From then on, shoots were covered and are cut underground (Spargel stechen).
To buy asparagus make sure it's fresh (obviously). The little heads should be closed and shiny, the stalks should be firm and squeak when you rub them together. When you press the bottom juice should come out that should smell fresh and not sour. To keep it fresh, you can wrap your asparagus in a wet towel and store it in the fridge. It'll keep another two to three days.
Unlike green asparagus, Bleichspargel (white asparagus) has to be peeled. Most often the asparagus is boiled, but you can also fry or steam it.
How you eat it is obviously up to you but many people like it with sauce hollandaise and potatoes, maybe with some fine fish or veal. It is also good as Spargelcremesuppe (creamy asparagus soup).
Traditionally, asparagus season ends on St. John's Day on June 24th.

HERMAN THE GERMAN FRIENDSHIP CAKE

A Herman friendship cake shouldn’t be put in the fridge and also requires a lid or to be covered by a tea towel. He grows at room temperature.
